On this day in 1975: Assassination of Saudi King Faisal

Born in Riyadh on April 14, 1906, Faisal was the king of Sayadi Ar from 1964 until his assassination. After his father Ibn Saud conquered the Hejaz province, Faisal became its foreign minister and viceroy in 1926. Mecca and Medina, the holy places of worship of the Muslim community, belong to this state.

In 1944, Faisal, who led Saudi Arabia at the United Nations Conference, was also an ambassador to the United Nations. Faisal, who became Crown Prince and Saudi Foreign Minister in 1953, was given executive powers by Saud during the economic crisis of 1958.

Faisal, who resigned in 1960, took charge again from 1962. In March 1964, he assumed full power as Viceroy. In November 1964, Faisal Saidi became King of Arabia after Saud was deposed by religious leaders, senior members of the ruling family, and the cabinet.

King Faisal made extensive reforms in the economic, educational and administrative sectors of Saudi Arabia during his tenure. After his assassination, his half-brother Khalid Ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud assumed the throne of Saudi Arabia.
