The eighth edition of Virat Gold Cup football tournament is starting from Thursday.
In the opening match at Shahid Maidan in Biratnagar, the departmental team Nepal Police Club will face the guest team Royal Thimphu Football Club of Bhutan. This tournament, which has been running under the name of Mahendra Gold Cup since 2018, has been transformed into Virat Gold Cup since 2068. 10 teams, including 3 from abroad, will participate in the competition which will be held until March 24. , the winner got Rs 20 lakh 15 thousand and the runner-up got Rs 10 lakh 15 thousand. Kishore Shahi, chairman of Gold Cup Trust, said that the prize money was reduced due to lack of funds. This year the competition was organized by the Trust itself.
The best coach, the best goalkeeper, the highest scorer will be awarded a prize of 21 thousand rupees each. Likewise, the organizers informed through a press conference on Wednesday that the best player of the daily game will be given 11,000 cash and the best player will be given a motorcycle prize.
